Mayor Joe Hogsett Announces Neighborhood Grant Program
Partnership with Council, INRC to offer $500k towards neighborhood beautification
INDIANAPOLIS – This morning, Mayor Joe Hogsett joined leadership from the City-County Council and the Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center (INRC) to announce the City of Indianapolis Neighborhood Grant Program. This initiative seeks to increase resident engagement, promote neighborhood action, and establish new and stronger relationships among neighbors and community-based organizations. The program is made possible through federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding approved by the City-County Council and it will be administered by INRC.
“We are excited to partner with the Council and INRC to empower neighborhood organizations and encourage collective projects to inspire community pride," said Mayor Hogsett. “No one knows a neighborhood better than its neighbors. The Neighborhood Grant Program will capitalize on that knowledge and improve quality of life for residents across Indianapolis.”
The Neighborhood Grant Program application is currently open through Monday, June 6. Applicants may request grants for up to $10,000. Application details and the submission portal can be found at www.inrc.org/grants.
“Neighborhoods are the cornerstone of safer and healthier communities; our city’s strength and health are only as robust as the neighborhood cornerstones upon which it rests,” said City-County Council President Vop Osili. “Providing neighbors and neighborhood organizations resources through the Council’s partnership with Mayor Hogsett and INRC puts the tools to build a brighter future in the hands of those who understand best what their neighborhood needs to get there.”
The program is available to Registered Neighborhood Organizations within Marion County and located within a Qualified Census Tract and/or within a ZIP Code that was negatively impacted by COVID-19 (as defined by the SAVI’s COVID-19 Impact Score). Examples of eligible projects include:
Community Gathering Areas
Community Gardens
Neighborhood Clean-Ups
Neighborhood (Gateway) Signs
Murals or Public Art Installations
“INRC is excited to partner with the City and Council on this initiative” said Anne-Marie Taylor, INRC Executive Director. “We know that neighbors know their neighborhoods best, and we can’t wait to see the amazing ideas neighbors have. We are honored to work with our partners and support these projects to get off the ground."
A second round of grant funding will open applications in October 2022.
