Indy DPW Provides Guidance for Volunteer Clean-Up Efforts

INDIANAPOLIS— The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) today encouraged those offering to assist crews with clean-up in the downtown area to instead volunteer in the beautification efforts of partner organization Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB). Indy DPW hopes to address many clean-up and graffiti abatement operations in a uniform manner within the public right-of-way by using solely internal crews. While Indy DPW is appreciative of offers to help downtown, leadership encourages volunteers to improve public spaces in their neighborhoods with KIB.

Through their Adopt-A-Block program, KIB provides resources for clean-ups while empowering residents to personally take part in clean-up efforts. The Adopt-A-Block program also requires those involved to regularly be out in their neighborhood having conversations with neighbors, encouraging the development of community.

Those interested in working with KIB can also continue to check their volunteer calendar as they slowly add projects back in, such as the Great Indy Cleanup.

Indy DPW had crews out this past weekend and continues to lead clean-up efforts in the public right-of-way maintained by the City of Indianapolis. Graffiti abatement and cleaning efforts on state property, including at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, will be addressed by state officials.
