RELEASE: Electric Vehicle Showcase Returns to Central Indiana

Showcase aims to get community up to speed on all things driving electric
 

INDIANAPOLIS -- The fourth annual Central Indiana Electric Vehicle (EV) Showcase will cruise into town on Saturday, October 5. The Indianapolis Office of Sustainability and the City of Carmel combined forces to create a showcase that is bigger than ever with an even wider variety of vehicles than in previous years. This premier event will offer attendees the opportunity to test-drive multiple new-model EVs, try out a charger, and ask the experts any questions they may have about EVs and how to make the switch.

"Electric vehicles represent the latest in automotive technology, something that's always been important in Indianapolis," said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. "With $15 million in federal grant money coming to the city to expand EV infrastructure, soon all in our city can consider EV ownership knowing that their city has the proper support systems in place for their sustainable vehicle."

This free, family-friendly event will feature live music, food trucks, and free coffee, all while showcasing the various makes and models of electric vehicles available in the Central Indiana market. This is a great way for folks to explore their options, whether they are interested in purchasing an EV soon or just curious to get some questions answered.

Featured dealerships include Tesla (Model 3 & Model Y; offering test drives), Penske Honda (Prologue; offering test drives), Dreyer & Reinbold BMW (i4, iX, i7), and Tom Wood Ford (Mustang Mach E). Other vehicles available thanks to Central Indiana community members include:

This list will be updated on the event's Facebook page. Local E-bike retailers and an IndyGo bus will also be on-site to demonstrate varied modes of electrified mobility. Central Indiana community members already driving electric can show off their ride at the Showcase. Interested EV owners are asked to register in advance at BeHighlyEvolved.com.

"There are currently a lot of misconceptions about EVs, but also a lot of movement at the state and federal levels to increase public charging options and affordability," said Brandon Herget, Director of the Indianapolis Department of Public Works. "We know our community members have questions, so we're proud to create this in-person opportunity to get them connected with answers as we work to create a more resilient future for Indianapolis."

Roughly one-third of Indianapolis's citywide greenhouse gas emissions comes from the transportation sector. The transition to more electric vehicles a part of the pathway to reducing pollution, improving regional air quality and public health, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Thrive Indianapolis - the city's sustainability and resilience action plan - included a target of 3,040 electric vehicles registered in Marion County by 2025. The goal was achieved nearly two years ahead of schedule. Electric vehicles could make up as much as nearly half of global car sales by 2035.
